Small World

I received a facebook update from an acquaintance in New Zealand who was close to the quake. Good news. I realized how small the world gets when you visit faraway lands and meet people. A few have become good friends and others, maybe just a note here and there on facebook, but I realize I start caring more about what happens in the world. It's kind of easy when it is out of sight and out of mind when disaster is not in your backyard. Granted we do have to take care of ourselves and at times be a little selfish in order to find our happiness. We can't always solve the world's problems BUT we still can make a difference in someone's life whether it is being there for them, volunteering your help, anything to make things just a little bit better for someone else. My thoughts go out to those in need be it NZ, Egypt, Libya... It's a small world and we are short on time believe it or not. 80-90 years of life (if you're lucky) is not that long in the grand scheme of things. Be good to yourself and others and make those years count.

Very well said. Not only is our time on this earth limited, but because of technology, our world is getting smaller, not larger. To me, this means that, long term, if all of us don't make it, none of us will make it. We had better learn...again...how to be in community with each other. To me, that simply means that we must care enough about each other to care for each other. "Can I get a witness?"
